AL COSTELLOE SHRINK'S COUCH

‘Shrink’s Couch’ is the final single from Al Costelloe’s debut solo EP, Solo Neurotic. The London-based singer-songwriter has developed a sound that sits between delicate, melodic indie pop and forward-thinking, impressive art pop. The persistent chugs of a trebly electric guitar define the tune, with conversational and memorable vocal melodies providing narrative direction. On the track’s exploration of Costelloe’s experience with therapy, she explains: “Whereas lots of people still feel a stigma around therapy, I’d always been brought up with the idea that it's actually essential for just getting through life and being a functioning human being, if you’re lucky enough to be able to access it. So I like the way that every time I sing the chorus it feels like a tiny act of resistance against the shame that still surrounds mental health.” Solo Neurotic is out now and will be supported by a European tour with Demob Happy this Autumn. -Dan Peeke.
